Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari is a noted British Civic Leader, Educationalist, Parenting Consultant and Author.
After completing his MSc in Physics, he served as a Bangladesh Air Force officer for four years (1978-82) before researching and gaining his PhD in Physics at King’s College London in the early 1980s. He then moved into secondary teaching, specialising in Behaviour support and Special Education needs in the 1990s.
Dr Abdul Bari is a founding member of the Muslim Council of Britain, Citizens UK and has been involved with the East London Mosque and several charities including Muslim Aid. He was a board member of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (London 2012). He took an early retirement in 2011 and now focuses on writing, working with civil society bodies and mentoring young people.
Dr Abdul Bari has endeavoured to bridge two worlds all his life. From the ‘old guard’ Muslim elders and the newer generations, to factions within and between ethnic and religious communities. At a time of unprecedented tension and change as well as conflict between hardliners from both ends, his motto has always been ‘drowning hate through reason and love.’ His lifelong quest for ‘the middle way’ in his personal and public life has resulted in his continuous effort to create a generation of enlightened Muslim youth enriched by deeper knowledge, spirituality and social activism for the common good.
Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari PGCE, FRSA was conferred an MBE in 2003 and appointed Deputy Lieutenant (DL) of the Greater London Lieutenancy in July 2016. He is an Honorary Fellow of Queen Mary University of London and holds an Honorary Doctor of Education from the University of East London

Parenting Consultant
Dr Bari has delivered parenting courses worldwide and on TV under the Amana Parenting brand. As well as short courses and lectures, he has developed a 15-hour parenting course which focuses on 5 key components and is updated regularly.

The London 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics was a once in a lifetime global event for London. Not only did Dr Abdul Bari have the honour and privilege of being on the board of organisers, he was the only board member to be from an ethnic minority background. His primary focus was on areas including Education, Nations and Regions, Equality and Diversity.
